Social Literacy Book E8
Families brings together the concepts developed in Series E of the Social Literacy materials, whose overall theme is 'connections'. The family is explored as the first environment in which children learn about group connections, responsibilities and how to make decisions. A comparison is made of how different things are learnt in families in different cultures. The unit concludes with a study of family history, tracing the making of traditions and heritage. The Social Literacy Project has developed this unit as part of an interdisciplinary social science course for primary and secondary schools. The goal of social literacy is for students to develop a framework of social concepts as tools for social understanding and active, confident social participation. This book includes a dictionary of the main concepts used in Series E of the Social Literacy materials.
